Cory Munden is the CEO of Leading Edge Credit Union- a rural-based credit union serving members in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada, through five branches. His strategic focus is on ensuring his credit union balances financial success while demonstrating the co-operative principles and values.
Through completion of the Master of Management Co-operatives and Credit Unions through St. Mary’s University in Halifax, Cory published his work on leveraging the co-operative model within a credit union using a balanced scorecard strategy. The implementation of this strategy has positioned Leading Edge Credit Union as an emerging leader in discussions on social purpose banking and has led to LECU being awarded the distinguished Moses Coady Community Action award. Using the balanced scorecard, Cory has built key performance metrics into both the operational and co-operative objectives of the credit union, ensuring a balance between the two.
Cory is also very active in International co-operative development, where he has served as a Canadian Co-operative Association (CCA) mentor in Ghana and Uganda. Under his leadership, LECU has hosted three credit union professionals from the CCA International Women’s Mentorship program as well as a CCA Uganda field specialist. Cory holds an International Credit Union Development Educator (ICUDE) certificate and has served as a mentor in both the Caribe DE and Canada DE programs. These co-operative development education programs encourage international participants to further strengthen co-operative knowledge and teach them to apply their learnings to build better communities.
Cory is the chair of the Growing our Futures Childcare Co-operative. As a founding member, he was a key player in developing and introducing this initiative. In addition, he is Treasurer for the local minor hockey program and actively involved in Credit Union provincial strategy teams.
