The Co-operative Development Foundation of Canada (CDF Canada) is pleased to announce a new partnership with Solid State Community Society, a BC-based organization building worker-owned co-operatives led by racialized migrant and refugee communities. This collaboration highlights the shared belief that solidarity economies can be transformative tools for justice, inclusion, and long-term community resilience.
CDF Canada and Solid State will work together to promote inclusive cooperative development in Canada and abroad, focusing on knowledge sharing, community-led models, and peer-to-peer learning. In an era of rising inequality and social fragmentation, this partnership affirms the role of co-operatives in creating democratic, non-extractive economic systems that serve people over profit.
Solid State supports over two dozen active worker co-operatives and is building a network of solidarity enterprises rooted in cultural identity, collective ownership, and mutual support. Its members—many of whom are first-generation, asylum-seeking, or refugee families—are redefining what local economic power looks like through the co-operative model.
The partnership will explore opportunities for global collaboration, mutual learning, and co-creation of programming that uplifts marginalized voices and builds resilient, inclusive communities. Together, Solid State and CDF Canada aim to foster a global cooperative movement that reflects the strength of lived experience and collective action.
