Why should I donate to CDF Canada?
For over 75 years, the Co-operative Development Foundation of Canada (CDF Canada) has been empowering co-operative communities. Through our partnerships and strategies, we have assisted and built co-operative communities that promote prosperity and self-reliance in Asia, Africa, Eastern Europe, and Latin America. We strive to bridge the gap between agriculture and financial access, reduce gender inequality, promote financial inclusion, enhance sustainability, combat climate change, and alleviate poverty. In times of crisis, we are proud to play a crucial role in assisting with recovery and rebuilding efforts ranging from environmental crises to global socio-political shifts.
How do I donate?
To donate use our secure online donation page. We offer various payment methods, including credit and debit cards. Just follow the instructions on the page to complete your donation. Alternatively, you can also send a cheque or make an electronic funds transfer (EFT) to our office. For further details, please contact Donna Miller, Director Operations & Engagement at donnamiller@cdfcanada.coop.
How are my donations used?
Your donations fund various projects, campaigns, and emergency occurrences, e.g., natural disaster. Donations improve the lives of people and their communities in need. This includes initiatives related to financial literacy, community development, rebuilding and recovery, advancing gender equality, enhancing sustainability among financial and non-financial co-operatives, addressing food insecurity, and more.
What is a general donation?
By making a general donation (not restricting funds to one specific area), you are contributing to our overall mission and also supporting innovative programs, infrastructure improvements and important global partnerships. You are entrusting CDF Canada to use your donation prudently, so we are able to respond to ever-changing global needs in a timely manner. This trust has been our compass, especially during unprecedented and unpredictable situations – – ranging from environmental crises to war zones or global socio-political shifts.
Are my donations tax-deductible?
Yes. CDF Canada donations are tax deductible. Once the donation is received and processed, you will receive your tax receipt either by mail or email if you have provided an email address. Given the uncertainty and delays by mail, we encourage you to provide us with your email address. If you relocate your residence or business, please advise us of your new address as soon as possible. If you are a monthly donor, you will receive your tax receipt in January following the end of the calendar year.
Am I able to donate in honour or memory of someone (Tribute gift)?
A gift in memory or in honour is a memorable way to pay tribute to someone special or dear to you. We send a letter to the family acknowledging your gift, sharing your name or it can be anonymous. During the donation process, you will have the option to include details of the person you are honouring with your gift.
Are there other gift options?
Yes. There is legacy giving (a bequest), which has lasting meaning towards how you can be remembered. It inspires your entire family knowing the effort you made to plan and execute this decision. Learn more about bequests on our website, as well as giving a gift of stock or securities.
Can we make a corporate donation?
Corporate relationships are key to CDF Canada’s success. We receive essential donations from an array of organizations every year. Corporate giving allows us to raise the funds needed to support vulnerable populations as well as co-operatives and credit unions around the world. There are several ways organizations can become involved, such as natural disaster recovery, international development programs, and campaigns, to name a few. A partnership with CDF Canada means we will work with you to make a difference in the lives of people and communities around the world.
Can employees donate?
Yes. We are always grateful to employees who are eager to support CDF Canada’s work. This is a way for employees to know they are making a real impact on a global scale. Your contribution can be done through payroll deduction with your employer who sends your donation at the end of the calendar year. You also get a tax receipt for income tax purposes.
Can I set up a recurring donation?
Yes. Setting up a recurring donation is a great way to provide ongoing support to our initiatives. You can set up monthly, quarterly, or yearly donations through our online donation platform.
What other ways can we get involved with CDF Canada?
There are several ways to get involved with CDF Canada and its work. You can volunteer with us, become a speaker or presenter in our learning programs, sponsor an event or program, become a fundraiser, and more. Contact us or visit our “ENGAGE” page to learn more about the opportunities available.
